Cost and value

Do you charge just to come out and look at it?

Short answer

Yes — there is a diagnostic charge for the visit and for finding the actual fault, and we tell you what it is on the phone before you book. There is no travel surcharge on top of it anywhere inside our 50-mile radius.

What the diagnostic charge pays for

It pays for the drive, the time, and the diagnosis itself — which is the part that has real value. Working out that a dryer is not heating because of a failed thermal cutoff rather than a heating element is what stops you buying the wrong part twice.

It is not a booking fee or a deposit. It covers a technician arriving with a stocked van and telling you what is genuinely wrong with your machine.

No travel surcharge, anywhere in the radius

Someone in Maquoketa pays the same as someone across the street from our Rock Island shop. We group jobs into runs in each direction so the drive stays off your invoice rather than being passed to you as a zone fee.

This is deliberate. Plenty of shops quietly price rural addresses out, which is exactly why people forty miles from a city end up waiting a fortnight for anyone at all.

What happens next

Once we know the fault we quote the repair. You decide. If you go ahead, we get on with it — usually on that same visit. If you decide not to, you have paid for a clear answer and a written record of what is wrong, which is worth having whether you repair, replace or sell the machine.

Still not sure how this applies to your machine? Call and ask — we would rather answer a question over the phone than have you guess. We cover Rock Island, the Quad Cities and every community within 50 miles.

What does appliance repair cost?

A repair breaks into two parts: a diagnostic charge for coming out and finding the actual fault, and then the repair itself, which is quoted before any work starts. You hear the diagnostic figure on the phone before you book, and nothing begins until you say yes.

Should I repair my appliance or replace it?

Rough guide: if the repair costs more than about half what a comparable new machine costs, and the appliance is past two-thirds of its expected life, replacing is usually the better call. Below that, repairing almost always wins on cost and on waste.

Why does one part cost almost as much as a new appliance?

Because manufacturers sell whole appliances at thin margins and individual service parts at fat ones. A control board priced at half the machine is not a mistake — it is a business model, and it is the main reason some repairs stop making sense.

How fast can you get to me?

In the Quad Cities core — Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Davenport, Bettendorf — a morning call very often becomes a same-day appointment. Further out in the 50-mile radius we schedule you into the next run in that direction, usually within a few days.

Appliance down? Let’s get it fixed.

Same-day service in most cases across the Quad Cities and 50 miles around. Talk to a real technician, not a call center.

Greg was recommended to me and they said if Greg can’t fix it you’ll probably have to buy new. He was prompt, honest about what was wrong, and completely professional. In my 57 years he is the most honest and personable repair man I have ever met.
