CR Work

A running record of completed repair work across the Quad Cities — what came in broken, what we found, and what it took to put it right.

Every entry below is real work on a real appliance in a customer’s home. We publish it because appliance repair is an industry where it is easy to talk and hard to prove, and because seeing the actual failure — the burned element, the packed vent, the cracked pump housing — tends to explain the repair better than any description we could write.

  • Dryer Whirlpool Moline, IL

Whirlpool electric dryer — ran all day, never got hot

    The call
Customer was running three cycles to dry one load and the dryer had started shutting off partway through.
    What we found
Open heating element plus a blown thermal fuse, both caused by a vent line packed solid with lint out to the exterior hood.
    What we did
Replaced the element and thermal fuse, cleared the full vent run and the blower housing, then verified exhaust temperature and airflow through a complete cycle.
    Result
Single visit. Dried a full load in one cycle before we left — and removed a genuine fire hazard from the wall.
    Refrigerator Samsung Bettendorf, IA

Samsung French door — freezer cold, fridge warm

    The call
Fresh food compartment sitting near 55°F while the freezer held temperature normally. Customer had been told to replace the refrigerator.
    What we found
Evaporator coil frosted over solid, blocking airflow to the fresh food side. Root cause was a failed defrost heater, not the compressor.
    What we did
Manually cleared the ice, replaced the defrost heater and sensor, confirmed the defrost cycle initiated correctly, and monitored both compartments back down to temperature.
    Result
A repair instead of a new refrigerator. This is the single most common "my fridge is dying" call that turns out not to be.
    Dishwasher GE Davenport, IA

GE dishwasher — inches of standing water after every cycle

    The call
Water left in the tub after every wash, with a grinding noise during the drain portion of the cycle.
    What we found
Glass fragment and hardened debris jammed into the drain pump impeller, which had burned out the pump motor.
    What we did
Replaced the drain pump, cleared the sump and filter housing, checked the drain hose high loop and disposer knockout, then ran a full cycle to verify a dry tub.
    Result
Same-visit repair. Caught before the leak reached the subfloor under the cabinets.

    Adding your own entries

This page is built to be added to without touching any layout code. Drop a photo into static/assets/img/cr-work/, copy one block in src/data/cr-work.mjs, change the words, and run npm run build.

Entries without a photo render as a clean typographic card rather than a broken image, so you can publish a write-up before you have a picture for it.

    About these repairs

    What is this page?

A record of completed repairs — what came in broken, what we found when we opened it, and what it took to fix. It exists so you can see the actual work rather than take our word for it.

    Are these real jobs?

Yes. Every entry is a repair we completed. Nothing here is a stock example or an illustration of a repair we have not actually done.

My appliance is doing the same thing as one of these. Is that the same fault?

Possibly, but do not assume it. Identical symptoms come from different causes across brands and model years, which is exactly why we diagnose before quoting. Call with the model number and we can usually narrow it down on the phone.

Will my repair end up on this page?

Only if it is interesting and only without anything identifying you. We do not publish addresses, names or anything that would tell a reader whose kitchen it was.

Your appliance could be the next entry.

Tell us what it is doing and we will tell you what it probably is.

Greg was recommended to me and they said if Greg can’t fix it you’ll probably have to buy new. He was prompt, honest about what was wrong, and completely professional. In my 57 years he is the most honest and personable repair man I have ever met.
